Binary Primitivism

Workshop

Together, we will research isolated online tribes, clans, groups, and communities, and exploit their aesthetics. Endless opportunity awaits us in the workshop, as the range of groups is wide. You might zoom into Alt-Right, 4Chan, Darknet, Net.Art, Usenet, Seti@Home, c64, Micromusic, My Little Pony, Pinterest, Online Poker, Organic Dog Meat Lovers Communities, or any other exotic tribe you discover. Since the invention of the Internet, the relentless debate about whether or not to simplify art and get “back to the basics” hasn’t lost any steam. Binary primitivism is a digital art movement that seeks simple representation. The movement targets isolated groups such as 4chan boards and Usenet self-help groups as sources of orientation, and aspires for simplification via selection—an artistic return to simpler realities of the past and present.
