A chilling and revealing look at bureaucratic techno-speak, Jeanne C. Finley provides a course in "official" media rhetoric. The urban environment has become the site of tactical language, rendering our daily lives in a science-fiction state of constant fear. Drawing its title from the Pentagon's term for crash, Involuntary Conversion creates a rhythm of threat that is punctuated by the iconic image of a military jet floating in the sky. The mood of the video is suspended somewhere between nightmare and deadpan, and is propelled by a narrative as enigmatic as the language it exposes. Involuntary Conversion was screened at the 5th VideoFest in 1992.
