Wundbrand by Kain Karawahn

For the first decade of today’s transmediale, Kain Karawahn was a participant in almost every edition. His video Wundbrand (with sound by Blixa Bargeld) was shown at VideoFest ’92. Karawahn’s artistic performances in the 1980s and 90s all used or referred to fire in one form or another. “All cosmic existence, all earthly life, and thus every activity is based on the principle of combustion (thermodynamic equilibrium). With the use of red, the most intensively “hated” color in video technology, and many fire images—from TV static to freezer burn—Wundbrand attempts to visualize the “inner fire” of the civilized, urban human without trying to explain what it actually means.” (Kain Karawahn)
